BG Jerry Laws


Brigadier General Jerry L. (Gunner) Laws graduated from the University of Oklahoma and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery Corps in August 1966.

BG Laws has held a variety of important command and staff positions that include: Battery Commands with 8th Battalion, 17th Field Artillery and 6th Battalion 1st Field Artillery, 6th Infantry Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Aviation staff officer, 18th Engineer Brigade, Republic of South Vietnam; commander Battery B 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery, Republic of Korea; Aviation staff officer with the Aerial systems branch, Combined Arms Combat Developments Activity and a Aide de Camp, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Brigade Fire Support Officer and Brigade Executive Officer to the 1st Battalion, 35th Field Artillery, Fort Stewart, Georgia; Special Assistant to the Assistant Division Commander, 2nd Armored Division (Forward), Garlstedt, the Federal Republic Artillery Regiment and the 14th Field Artillery Regiment and the 4th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Division (Forward), the Federal Republic of Germany;

BG Laws served as a speech writer, Congressional Affairs Branch, Deputy Chief of Staff of Research and Developments, U.S. Field Artillery School, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Commander of White Sands Missile Range; Oklahoma. He then served as the Assistant Division Commander of Support, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

His military education includes the Field Artillery Officers’ Basic and Advanced Coursed, Fixed and Rotary Wing Flight Training, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

BG Laws’ decorations and badges include: the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (with two subsequent awards); the Bronze Star Medal (with two subsequent awards); the Meritorious Service Medal (with three subsequent awards) the Air Medal (with nine subsequent awards); the Army Achievement Medal; Senior Army Aviator Badge; and Parachutist Badge.
